The commitment of RDC clients to responsible computer
recycling and disposal is a strong demonstration of
their CSR – corporate social responsibility. The
scope of RDC’s ‘Integrated Management System’
(IMS) certification, audited by the BSI, provides assurance
that the management systems driving our computer disposal
process maximise long-term business success.
Environmental Responsibility
RDC were the first U.K. IT recycler to achieve zero
landfill of IT waste. Customers know that their business
risks and legal obligations in relation to the reuse
and recycling of computers are being met. Mass balance
reporting of all items sent to recyclers and the amounts
reclaimed enable clients to demonstrate, corporate,
environmental and social responsibility to all stakeholders.
Legal Compliance
RDC’s independently assessed BSi certification
ensures compliance with UK and EU legislation. This
provides clients with a full commercial and legislative
risk management service. RDC data disposal ensures full
data eradication in line with the Data Protection Act
1998. RDC have achieved security clearance in order
to process Government classified data. Services are
fully compliant with Environmental Protection Act, Electrical
Safety Regulations and the WEEE Directive.
Bridging the Digital Divide and Environmental
Sustainability
Promoting sustainable development throughout computer
reuse and recycling supply chains is included in all
aspects of the company’s business activities.
RDC have developed partnerships with a number of national
and International Charities working to support the needs
of developing communities. RDC aims to ensure that the
charity computer donation programmes offered to customers
are environmentally sustainable and ethical. We minimise
business risk by managing data eradication, ensuring
electrical safety testing for equipment functionality
and recycling end-of-life computers.
Social Inclusion - Mill Race/RDC Partnership
RDC have partnered with Mill Race IT (MRIT), a Social
Firm facilitating the relocation of MRIT’s IT
Training and Refurbishment centre within RDC’s
main UK operation. This allows Mill Race to offer a
greater number of training and work experience opportunities
to disadvantaged people
MRIT is a project set up by Interact, a Registered
Charity (no. 1048631), which runs various programmes
to help disadvantaged people, including those recovering
from mental ill health.
RDC supply Mill Race IT with space and resources to
carry out their training and employment programmes as
part of our commitment to sustainable development and
social inclusion. RDC also supply used IT equipment
for Mill Race IT trainees to process on a mutually beneficial
basis helping to increase possible training and employment
opportunities.
